Do you have tree’s surrounding your Private Road?
If you have a tree, or multiple trees surrounding your Private Road, Private Lane or similar throughway then it would be a good idea to take out a ‘Tree Removal’ extension on your Private Roads Insurance Policy.
Simply put, this cover will help pay towards any removal of trees that have fallen (for example in a storm) and are blocking your private road as well as cover any damage caused to your Private Road, private path or similar.
If you opt for a tree removal extension on your Private Roads policy then you will also be covered for the removal and lopping of trees that are deemed dangerous to the public.
Private Roads Insurance will not cover the cost of removing a tree that has not yet fallen – that is your responsibility (or that of the management company or residents association). You need to make sure that you are keeping up general maintenance, such as removing a dying tree as well as pruning any trees.
If a tree has fallen in a storm and caused damage, then the removal of tree extension part of your policy should pay for the damage caused as well as the removal of the tree (or branches).
